The science behind what makes a website work better than others has been tested over thousands of visits these are the results:
1) Robin Egg Blue and Brown came out as the top 2 colors for trust so if you are a company that is trading on trust go back and have a look.
2) The font that returned the best conversions were Tahoma 12PTS
3) Tahoma 36 pt converted the best for Headlines
4) These big banners than Joomla have on so many templates, actually had little difference to over all conversions what worked best is a humble but smart logo and small headers.
5) The side backgrounds some have on their site the ones like on Twitter performed terrible in testing….. avoid
6) When designing your site drop shadows that pop out the main text increased readership by 5%
7) A signature just before your folding statement increased readership by around 8%
Headlines : Negative headlines for blogs worked wonders in testing increasing hit rates by over 40%
9) Questions in your blog headlines worked well
10) ‘Who else wants’ the old don’t get left behind still worked well in our testing
